Fotonovela

Promoting secure, low-risk homeownership, LEDC created a Fotonovela called “The Gómez Family Buys Their First House.” This booklet, which tells a story of a Latino family using photographic illustrations similar to those used in comic books, provides necessary information on homeownership through an entertaining medium familiar to the Hispanic community, just like our street theatre.

This method of story telling has been part of the Latino culture for many generations.  LEDC’s “fotonovela” uses photographs of real people and portrays characters facing the daily struggles that are universal to low and moderate-income Latino families. As the characters seek to realize their dream of owning a home, they must figure out ways to overcome language and cultural barriers as well as factors like poor credit that can limit their dreams.
