Outreach Volunteer
The Affordable Housing Outreach Volunteer helps our Affordable Housing team prepare for and help run Tenants’ Rights forums, events, and fundraisers. Get to know our community organizers and learn some of the ins-and-outs of community advocacy as you walk through communities in DC hanging up and handing out fliers, reach out to tenants before events, assist with mailings, and collect signatures on advocacy campaigns in support of decent, affordable housing.
Translation/Interpretation Volunteer
The Affordable Housing Translation/Interpretation Volunteer helps our Affordable Housing team fulfill its commitment to provide multilingual, culturally sensitive tenants rights information to help tenants understand their rights in their native languages. Learn more about the rich, cultural diversity of DC communities and help our community organizers translate important information for distribution and provide interpretation at tenants' rights meetings and events.
Communications Volunteer
The Affordable Housing Communications Volunteer helps our Affordable Housing team create visually appealing graphics, fliers, and posters for tenant rights’ forums and events and write stories and testimonies with our tenants. Flex your creative muscle, build your design portfolio, and get to know the diverse immigrants that call DC home by working with our staff to design fliers, write client stories, write client testimonies for legislative hearings, and help tenants when appropriate to identify how their stories could connect with larger advocacy campaigns.
Small Business Development
Outreach Volunteer
The Small Business Development Outreach Volunteer helps our Small Business Development team conduct outreach to drive new clients to LEDC’s lending, small business, and facade programs in the DC metro area. Get to know our small business team and learn some of the ins-and-outs of business outreach as you walk through DC communities hanging up and handing out fliers, identify new community partners, assist with mailings, recruit new members to our three Local First business alliances, and represent LEDC at community events.

The Development Graphic Design Volunteer helps our Development team create visually appealing graphics, fliers, and posters for funding appeals and fundraising events. Flex your creative muscle and get to know some of the ins and outs of raising funds for a community-based nonprofit in DC by working with our development staff to design flyers, posters, brochures, and other materials. Outreach Volunteer | Position Title: | Tenant Association Development Coordinator | | Open/Close Date: | Ongoing | | # of Volunteers Needed | 1 | | Accountable to: | Farah Fosse, Affordable Housing Program Director | | Objective: | Assist the Fairmont I and II Tenant Association to plan and develop programs and activities that will benefit residents and other community members in their Columbia Heights neighborhood. | | Duties: | - Assist Tenant Association Board and membership to determine programs and activities for the year. Translation/Interpretation Volunteer | Position Title: | Amharic Interpreter/Translator | | Open/Close Date: | Ongoing | | # of Volunteers Needed | 2 | | Accountable to: | Farah Fosse, Affordable Housing Program Director | | Objective: | Ensure that Amharic speaking tenants understand their rights as tenants and are fully engaged in their tenant associations. | | Duties: | - Provide English-Amharic interpretation at tenant rights meetings and events. - Translate English-language tenant rights materials into Amharic. Materials are primarily 1-2 page fliers or brochures. | | Qualifications: | - Effective written and verbal communication skills in English and Amharic - Understanding of issues that low-income tenants face. - Consecutive interpretation experience - Translation experience | | Benefits: | - Learn about tenant rights and issues facing low-income renters - Opportunity to talk your neighbors and other DC residents about important issues! - Make an impact in your community to preserve affordable housing and protect tenant rights! | | Time Commitment: | Tenant meetings are generally weekdays from 7 – 8:30 PM or on weekends.
